Lectio on Zoom

Whether you’re new to contemplative prayer or returning to it with fresh intention, you’re warmly invited to join this monthly practice of Lectio on Zoom. We gather in quiet, spacious ways to listen deeply to Scripture and to the Spirit’s movement within and among us. There’s no need to prepare or perform—just come as you are, and let the rhythm of sacred reading guide you into reflection, rest, and connection.

No pressure. No performance. Just space to breathe, reflect, and receive.

What is Lectio Divina?

Lectio divina* is a slow, prayerful way of engaging Scripture. Rather than reading for information, we read to dwell in the text and listen for the Spirit’s invitation.

This ancient monastic practice engages us in four movements:

  • Reading the passage slowly

  • Reflecting on what calls your attention

  • Responding in prayer

  • Resting in Divine presence

Rooted in sixth-century monastic life, lectio divina has found new life in modern Christian traditions. It was easily adapted for group settings — offering a reflective way to encounter the Divine together in community.

Noticing What Arises

In lectio divina, we’re not reading to analyze or explain—we’re paying attention to what we notice. As you sit with the passage, let yourself be drawn to whatever catches your attention. It might be a word or phrase that feels comforting, curious, challenging, or even unsettling.

You may feel drawn to the text, or you may feel resistance to it.

There’s no expected or “right” response — just be honest with what’s true for you in the moment. You don’t need to resolve or explain what arises. Simply notice, and allow the Spirit to be present with whatever arises. This practice honors your full experience.

Whether you come with trust, doubt, weariness, or wonder, you are welcome.

Meeting Online

Because lectio divina is practiced in silence and stillness, it translates beautifully to Zoom. I host a monthly gathering on the last Monday of each month, 8–9pm Eastern.

Each session includes:

  • A brief welcome and orientation

  • A short passage paired with a contemplative image

  • Guided prompts through the four movements

  • Optional sharing at the end — there’s no pressure to speak; you’re welcome to simply listen, reflect, and rest

Sharing Our Reflections

After our time of quiet, we’ll move into a space for sharing. Each person has the opportunity to speak, one at a time, while the rest of us listen with full attention — without interrupting, responding, or offering advice.

You are always free to pass, or to share only as much as feels right for you in the moment. There is no expectation to have something profound to say; simply offer what is authentic for you, whether that’s a few words, a longer reflection, or silence.
